Social media has been helping the Rayleigh Windmill showcase works by local artists and photographers as well as activities and trivia with the hashtag #WindmillWednesdayRDC.

We have been posting video tours around the iconic building for the last two weeks and will be continuing this week as we learn more about the history of this much-loved landmark.

Following postponement of the opening of the Rayleigh Windmill to visitors earlier in the year, Rochford District Council has taken the difficult decision to keep her closed for the rest of the season. We rely on a team of dedicated volunteers to welcome people to the attraction and we take their safety, and that of our visitors, extremely seriously. Civil Ceremonies are not presently affected by the closure, following government advice.

Cllr Mike Webb says “It is disappointing not to be able to open the Windmill this season, however offering online tours and talks is a great way to promote the wealth of history the town and Rayleigh Windmill has to offer.

The talks are great for families and those who want to learn about the history of our districts most famous landmark.
