Rochford District Council has condemned leaflets which have been delivered to some homes within the district claiming that the COVID-19 pandemic is a hoax.
The authority has been made aware that leaflets have been circulating which spread false information and rumours about the virus, and are encouraging people not to wear face coverings.
We would urge our residents and businesses to go to www.rochford.gov.uk/coronavirus for the latest accurate information about the virus. This includes links on where to go for trusted information – including gov.uk, Public Health England, the NHS and Essex County Council.

It should be noted that the best available scientific evidence is that, when used correctly, wearing a face covering may reduce the spread of coronavirus droplets in certain circumstances, helping to protect others.
Rochford District Councils Leader, Cllr Simon Wootton, said: It is truly shocking that, in the midst of a global pandemic, we have leaflets circulating in the Rochford District which are spreading misinformation to our communities.
I would urge our residents and businesses to only rely on trusted official sources of information, and as a council we are issuing regular communication to our residents and businesses via our various channels.
It is more important than ever that we remember the simple messages regarding Hands, Face, Space, in order to protect our neighbours, our loved ones, and those working on the frontline.
